Considerate Group has signed the Glasgow Declaration: A Commitment to a Decade of Climate Action in Tourism – What does it mean?

The Glasgow Declaration is a catalyst for increased urgency about the need to accelerate climate action in tourism and to secure strong actions and commitment to cut tourism emissions in half over the next decade and reach Net Zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050”

Considerate Group is proud to be a signatory and launch partner of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism!

As a specialist sustainability consultancy for hospitality and tourism, we strongly support the Declaration’s objectives aiming at strengthening climate ambition and action within the tourism industry.

Considerate Group is a B Corp certified business on its way to Net Zero by the end of 2022. By signing the Declaration, we are committing to updating our existing climate plans within 12 months from signing and reporting annually on progress against our targets and actions taken. The plans will be built around five pathways: measurement, decarbonisation, regeneration, collaboration, and financing.

Last month, we published our first Carbon Report for which we have measured our scope 1 and 2 emissions, and 90% of our scope 3 emissions – exceeding the 67% recommended by the Science-Based Targets initiative.

Our next steps to decarbonisation will be to measure our digital emissions and implement a sustainable business travel policy. Aligned with our pledge to be Net Zero, we will also review our 2021 activity and identify areas of improvement for the following year.

We support our clients’ regeneration efforts through our Con-Serve™ platform and fluttr app, which support the preserving of resources. We also work with our clients to encourage them to maintain the balance of biodiversity where they operate.

Considerate Group is proud to collaborate with like-minded partners such as the University of Surrey, Utility Team, and Everyone for Climate amongst many others. We are also part of many hospitality and sustainability programmes such as the Global Tourism Plastic Initiative, the GRI Sustainable Hospitality Committee, and will be joining the Global Sustainable Tourism Council this year.

Our small team is committed to achieving our goals, and finance is made available to help us progress towards them.  Research and development is a core part of our business. Company flights are off-set where train travel is not available. We encourage our team to use volunteering days to participate in community projects of their choice.

The Declaration is being officially launched today, Thursday, 4th November 2021 at COP26 in Glasgow, UK.
